Selling a QLD vqn in NSW

Hi all,
I know this exact question has already been answered, but I can't seem to understand... I might be dumb o whatever !!
I have a van registered in QLD until DEC 2010. I'm now in Sydney and trying to sell it.
Here are my questions :
- can I just get a NSW safety certificate, and sell it like that, registered in QLD + NSW safety Certificate ?
- If not, what do I, the seller have to do, and how much would that cost ?
I've read this on another post : (Ivan : You can get a blue slip in NSW and transfer the QLD registration to a NSW registration.)
So basically, I do the safety inspection (+ possible repairs) and transfer the rego to a NSW one ?
How much will that cost ?
Again, I know it has already been answered, but I would appreciate an answer !
Cheers

No worries - all good info!
Here are the answers:

Yep - go get a blue slip and you are good to sell it!
- If not, what do I, the seller have to do, and how much would that cost ?
Or you could ask the buyer to get the blue slip ...
So basically, I do the safety inspection (+ possible repairs) and transfer the rego to a NSW one ?

Really depends if there is something wrong with the car, but the safety check is not expensive, I think around $60, just pay for it, at least you will know if repairs are then needed.
Once you know the cost of repairs (if any), my advice is to wait until you find the buyer, then help register the car. You will need the safety certificate, a green slip (insurance), an address and some money ...
The green slip will probably be between $400 and $600 (you can get quotes online (
http://www.greenslips.com.au/
))
A 12 month roads and traffic authority registration will be around $500 ... maybe a little more or less depending on the car.
So with 12 months rego, the car is worth around $1,000 more than if it does not have rego, and of course the buyer will know it passed a test to the required safety standards, so you could argue it is now worth more than a $1,000 over the same car with no rego?
We have a deal with a garage in Kings Cross,
Flash Automotive Repairs
... they are backpacker friendly and can help you out with the blue slip:

Hope this helps

Hey !
Thanks for your reply !
I think what I'll do is
- get the blue slip
- do the repairs if the car needs some
- and knock some money off the price. (because the buyer will have to pay for green slip + rego)
- sell it.
Quick last question,
what do I do regarding its QLD rego ? Can I unregister it, get the 1,5 month rego refunded, and then sell it without plates ?
Or do I have to wait to find a buyer, we both fill out the paperwork ?
Honestly I'd rather fill up the paperwork, and be done with it. I'm working all day, I don't have time to go to the RTA with the buyer... Is there a way for me to just do that ?
Thanks !

Sounds like the best plan, and it was I would be doing in your shoes
Answer to your question
If it was my car, let the buyer get the QLD refund ... they should get a very small amount back from QLD, but really if it is a month or two, not an amount worth worrying about.
Any refund will be taken care of automatically when the new owner gets their new plates in NSW.
Make sure you complete
"and" post
your part of the paperwork.

Okay !
Thanks !
So I do the repairs, give the blue slip to the buyer, fill up the paperwork and take the cash.
No need to go to the office, or deregister it. Cool !
Awesome !
BTW, my paperwork is all QLD, would you have a link to the forms I need to fill up ?
Cheers

Hi !
Me again, I don't understand. I thought the blue slip was the safety check, but I called flash auto and they told me it was the pink slip...
damn it's annoying !
So, Ivan you said I could get a blue slip and sell it. right ? So, what is a blue slip ? How much does it cost ?
Thanks

Hi
Here is a bit of info regarding all the different slips they use in NSW...
The pink slip, the blue slip and the green slip ... what are they?!! (NSW)
In NSW the Pink slip is the safety inspection ... and is a written record of the annual safety inspection needed to complete re-registration. (cars over 5 years old)
Many NSW cars nearing the end of their registration time are advertised for sale with a new pink slip.
The idea being that the new buyer only needs to purchase a green slip and pay the government charges for the re-registration. (fixed costs)
The pink slip is good to have, as it lets you know the basic safety items meet minimum state standards, e.g. brakes and lights work, tyres are okay etc.
The pink slip does not cover the engine, gearbox or anything else ... so don't take a pink slip as anything other than the minimum safety check!
In NSW a Blue slip is also proof of a safety inspection. The blue slip is required if you are transferring a car from interstate, for example a QLD car being registered in NSW would need a blue slip.
In your case you need a Blue slip, don't know the exact price, but should be some where around $60. Just tell the guys in the garage that you need a safe check done for a car with a QLD rego and that you want to change the rego over to NSW.
Hope that helps,
Barb

Oi !
Okay, so blue slip's done, passed it (yoohoo !) ! Now I got people coming this arvo to check it.
If it sells, what do I do.
=> Fill up the NSW Paperwork => the form called : Application for a registration transfer
=> Fill up my QLD paperwork also ? And then, leave it with the buyer, or send it ?
You know what, I'm lost. This is the last favour I'm going to ask : can someone please just give me a link to all the forms (QLD and NSW) I need to print fill out ?
And then tell me what to do with them. (fill it with buyer, alone, send it to QLD, leave it with the buyer etc...)
I would appreciate it sooooo much !

Thinking of it.
The only thing left for me to do, is fill up the QLD paperwork stating that I sold the car, and mail MY PART to QLD RTA, and take the cash. Right ?

Hi,
Had a look at the QLD website and as far as I know you need to do the following:
The buyer has to go to the RTA, hand in the QLD license plates and fill in the paperwork to register the car in NSW. The Buyer will need to show them the Blue slip to be able to register the car.
You have to fill in a: Vehicle/Recreational Ship Cancellation of Registration Application from the Queensland government and send it to them. See link below:

Take care,
Barb

All done !
Got the cash, gave em the blue slip, rego application etc...
Printed the QLD form, mailing it tomoz.
Gotta say guys, there are a lot of good things in OZ, but the rego/interstate/federal system is just BS, and a total rip off !
To sell a car in france, you fill up 1 form with the buyer, tear down the sticker and you're done. He takes the paper to the local RTA and pays 100 Euros (120 dollars) for LIFE, not annualy !
Anyway, thanks a lot guys for helping me through this nightmare.
