Selling a QLD van in NSW

Hi there,
I'm trying to sell my van which has a QLD registration plate. The thing is that we are now in NSW sydney. Erm, i was wondering what things do i need to do if someone wants to buy it. Like how do i transfer the ownership? If i have to change the Registration? Erm ETC ETC

If the car needs rego anyway, it is not much more expensive to transfer it to NSW, compared to reregistering in QLD.

The biggest cost is the green slip and perhaps the repairs required to get the blue slip.

When i sell the car i need to transfer it into the other persons name don't I? Can i do that in NSW?

If the car is registered in QLD, it is true you can sell the car (van) to anyone wherever you are ... all you need to do is complete the registration transfer form and take the cash.

However the van will need a QLD safety certificate of less than 2 months old and 2,000KM's, whichever comes 1st.

However the buyer will need to go to QLD to register the car (van) in their name (within 14 days) "or" they can re-register the van in their name in NSW. (or any other state)

Re-registering a car takes a little effort and some cash, but it is possible.

Make sure you complete the registration transfer forms ... this is essential to avoid traffic fines going to the wrong person + for insurance reasons it is very important.

So can i get a transfer form in NSW though? Or do i need one from QLD :s because if that is the case it's going to be abit of a problem

If you have your registration document, look at the reverse side ... it should be a form you complete?

Usually the registration document (on the back) has two sections to fill out ... one for you to complete and one for the buyer to complete.

Keep your portion of the document and give the other to the buyer.

Post your portion the QLD registration office ...  Smiley
(take a photocopy just incase)

My registration document (QLD) doesnt have anything printed on its back. I do however have a form i collected from the department of transport regarding this topic. Do I need something else or is that okay?

#1 Did you just drive from Perth to NSW?!
If yes, make sure you write this in your ad! Some proof you have a good van!

#2 ... Yup I assume so, the dept have the last word, so whatever they give you is what you need.

Make sure when you sell, you record the buyers details, just to be sure you have a record of who the buyer is  Smiley
