Selling a NSW van in Victoria?
« on: April 08, 2010, 04:37:54 PM »

Hi!

I need some informations because I'm confused with all the rules for selling my van!

I'm selling my van which is registered in NSW. The REGO is until Oct 2010.
I'm in Melbourne now, so what have I to do for selling it? For changing the owner name on the REGO?
Is the roadworth is obligatory?

I don't want to pay many costs so what is the cheapest way to sell it? For example I heard about to cancel my registration...?

If you can help me please!

Thanks a lot

Hi,

Okay, here is the good news  Smiley

As your car has valid NSW registration, you can easily and legally sell your car anywhere in Australia ... no need for a safety check.
A NSW car only needs a check once per year, when the registration is due.

The important part: The new owner "must" then come to NSW in less than 14 days and visit a motor registry to pay their transfer fee and do their paperwork.
If they take longer than 14 days, they will get a fine. (not you)

So it is easy for you ... sell to anyone, anywhere ... no charges or fees for the seller  Cool

Please remember to complete the back of the registration paper and post your part yourself ... don't leave it to the buyer ... no matter how nice they may seem  Wink
