How do I sell a VIC registered van in NSW?
« on: April 02, 2011, 06:29:11 PM »

Hi

I have a VIC registered van that I bought in Victoria and a certificate of registration under my name.  The van has rego until January 2012.  I want to sell the van, with the remaining rego, in Sydney.  The buyer will most likely be a backpacker.  I'm not sure how to go about all the paperwork, safety inspections etc.  Is it even possible to sell/transfer a VIC vehicle to someone in NSW?

Can I please get some advice on this subject.

Thanks in advance..

Hi,

The best thing to do would be to get a 'blue slip' from a NSW mechanic.
If you are in Sydney, try Flash:

The buyer can then transfer the car to NSW.

The blue slip may also help to prove to the buyer the van is in a safe condition  Smiley

Hope this helps,

Cheers

Ivan

Cheers Ivan

If I get a blue slip does that mean I have a certain amount of time to sell the van? 30 days or so?

Will this allow me to sell it with the VIC rego and then they buyer can transfer the remaining months into NSW rego when they go to register it?

And with regards to the paperwork, do I pick up transfer forms from the RTA, fill them in and give the buyer a copy?

you will need to get a form from vicroads
you may be able to download one from the web but ring them and they will hapily post one too you
you can not use a nsw transfer form
vehicle has to be transfered via vicroads but they will accept a new south wales inspection cert ( blue slip ) and yes  cert is only valid for a certain time
in qld 60 days  vic and nsw its only 30 days ( i think )
if you sell it to a dealer  you dont need a cert or if you remove the plates and sell it unredg  you also do not need a cert

hope this helps out
