Backpacker Car Club (BCC)

Hi everyone!
I'm new here and am about to purchase my first car in Oz!!

I found this amazing Landcruiser from 1989, registered in WA and the seller wants to let it go for a very good price.
The car's in a good state but might not have been checked every year like they are in NSW.
How can I buy this car without registering it in NSW? I don't think that getting a blue slip for it is a real option...

To my understanding, all I need to do is renew the WA rego over the phone/internet, give them a garage address there as well as my current postal address in NSW.
So I won't even need to go there.

Am I mistaken here? 

Note that I've been in Sydney for 1 year on a Work visa (not permanent resident), I'm not under a work/holiday visa like most backpackers.

Ps. On an unrelated note, how important is it to have A/C in the car to travel around the country in the summer? Can you do without it?

WA is the very best registration to have for a backpacker car, because as you say, you can transfer or renew registration by post or the Internet, without needing to go to WA.

If it was me, I would probably get a blue slip anyway, simply so you know the car is safe. (the blue slip is really only a safety inspection, no obligation to use the blue slip and it is relatively cheap (if it passes))

My tip: Ask the seller to help you transfer the registration, it is good for both parties to have it done correctly.

Re airco ... I traveled, NSW, QLD and NT in a 1973 Holden Kingswood with no airco ... you CAN do it!!!
Airco costs money to run, nice to have, but not essential at all!
I am sure Steve Erwin did not have the airco on when outback!

Advertise the car for sale as soon as you buy it ... the BCC website might help connect you with a buyer while you are traveling!
BCC is FREE of course!

In that case I might as well get the car checked out by the NRMA, as if I was aiming to get the blue slip, make sure everything's is cool, then keep the WA rego so that a) it's cheaper to renew b) other backpackers might be happy to take advantage of it when I sell it.

Good to hear about the A/C. I hate the frisk air coming out of it anyway. I just hope I won't be boiling at night in the car

I'll keep moving forward with the car, and hopefully get it. Then I'll advertise it online when I'll know when I finish my trip!
