There are two other sites you should also advertise your car to give yourself good coverage with the backpacker market:

We are happy if you advertise here @ HCC, then copy the ad format to the two others sites.
Our ad format is clean and tidy and helps to make sure you don't forget vital info!

I personally like the people @ globalgossip, they are friendly and allow us to advertise on their site. They also run one of the most popular backpacker Internet chains in Australia.

Gumtree is owned by eBay ... and are not friendly to HCC ... banning us from advertising on their site, even though we offer FREE help and advice and try our best to help YOU for free ... but hey ... they are bigger than us and maybe able to help you sell your car - so you may as well use them too!
Gumtree is not just for backpackers ... here is how we think we are better:

1. We don't charge you to have your ad @ the top of the page

2. We offer free advice

3. We specialise in backpacker cars

4. We monitor the site to try ensure bad people stay off (example: illegal dealers)

5. We don't have duplicate ads and we keep the site as tidy as possible  

6. We are a small and friendly website ... built for YOU  

There is also www.carsguide.com.au which is free for web advertising and consulted by more Australian residents
And you can e-mail your ads to the CQ Buy & Sell booklet (Central Queensland) at: freeads@cqbuysell.com.au
You can also post your ad on http://www.australia-australie.com/annonces/ to target French backpackers

Carsguide is free for four lines of text ... if you want to put a photo, they charge $30   + more money for extra text !!

(HCC you can put as many pictures as you want free!)

Agreed, that you should probably also place an ad on cars guide (why not?!!) ... but in our experience once a local discovers you are a backpacker, they will buy a different car ... so really you need to sell to a backpacker, which is why we started HCC  

Good tip about CQ and australia-australie ... I had not heard of these before  

Maybe you could post something about HCC on australia-australie to help French backpackers find HCC?! This will help our google ranking, which would help HCC and help HCC to help others  

how long did it take them? just asking because someone was trying to scam me on gumtree ('please ship the car from australia to brazil - i send you a check that bounces...') and it took them 6 months (!) until i got a canned response 'thanks for your email. we take this matter very serious blah blah blah....' from them.

craigslist is free and you can also post pictures; however its much more popular in north america than australia:

The good thing about HCC (we think) is that we are built for backpackers cars (only) and have a small team that watches the site and answer questions and comments quickly.

We are a free site too ... but with customer service better than most of the sites you pay $30 to use! 

Beyond that, we even have special offers and links to helpful sites ... we gota be the best?
